RPET PUNNETS
Polyester (PET) punnets have replaced the older polystyrene (PS) and polypropylene (PP) ones. They constitute an excellent packaging for fresh fruit and vegetables since they both protect the product and are appealing to the consumer.
PET punnets have openings and slots for the necessary ventilation and cooling of fresh produce. They can either remain uncovered (such as those for strawberries) or closed with a corresponding lid, a mesh (extruded or elastic), food wrap (cling film), and film (flow-pack or heat-sealing).
Recently, the plastic punnets are made of 100% recycled polyester (RPET), in compliance with the market trend to limit plastic, without losing anything of their transparency and excellent mechanical properties.
PAPER PUNNETS
The paper punnets are fully recyclable, suitable for packaging fruit and vegetables. In different dimensions and types, open-top and hinged, they are working to all packing machines. Ideal for grapes, cherries, apricots, kiwis, cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, etc.
On top of this, the packaging can be easily designed to showcase the visual appeal of fruits and vegetables without needing a fully see-through concept.
RPET VS Paper Punnets
Paper punnets show more environmental benefits comparing to RPET, since they can be 100% biodegradable in the case of no PE-coating.
Moreover, they can be printed and gain the look and feel of a custom-made product.
